Oil tanker wreck open to Ibiza’s divers
- Section: Music News Topics: Ibiza
In July 2007 a 140m long oil tanker sank off the coast of Ibiza causing untold damage to the island’s coastline, but now the wreck is open for divers to explore.
The Don Pedro was carrying more than 200 tonnes of oil from Ibiza’s port when it hit the small island of Isla de Daus and sank to a depth of 43m.
It’s nice to see that something good has come of the catastrophe.

Sub-genre on the rise: Urban funky house
- Section: Music News
Deep in the underground of London and its surrounding counties, a new sound is emerging into the sunlight.
It’s unique, has a strong following and is bursting not only its borders, but also its oceans shores.
All continents and partying districts of the globe are being injected with this vibe and its connoisseurs are showing true dedication within its following.
The BBC in London has described this sound as “funky house with a grime flavour”.
Marcus Nasty who is a leading DJ within the scene has branded it UK house along with many others. The gurus of the house scene have labeled it “new age garage”.
Its followers however, are calling it “funky house”.
Those who are familiar with house music know that the sound representing this scene does not fall into the funky house category, as this is an already established genre which this style does not replicate.
Leading to the political argument generated upon each evolution within music, the question remains: “What do you call it?”

Aril Brikha attacks Shlomi Aber for ‘rip-off’
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
A few years ago Daniel Bell went public in an open letter claming Josh Wink ripped off Bell’s DBX classic ’Phreak’ in his then upcoming track ’Superfreak’, on Wink’s own imprint Ovum.
Needless to say, the similarities between the two tracks were quite big.
The beef went on for a bit, with Ovum threatening Daniel Bell and Submerge (who took Bell’s side) with defamation lawsuits abound, but after a while everyone calmed down and walked away.
The general question where ”inspiration“ ends, and ”rip-off“ starts still remains though, as Aril Brikha has now accused Shlomi Aber in an open public letter for ripping off his track ‘Groove La Chord’ for his latest single ‘Efrat’.

How do you use Ableton Live?
- Section: Music News Topics: Technology
Our friends over at Create Digital Music have started a “non-scientific visual survey” to try and discover the best way to use Ableton Live for live performances.
“Lots of people play violins. If you pick up a violin for the first time – whether it was an expensive instrument or not – it’ll sound really awful,” writes Create Digital Music’s Peter Kirn.
“So, given that music played on laptops is still music, it seems reasonable to assume that it’ll take practice, and that not everyone will do things the same way.”

Jade Jagger dumps Pacha for Amnesia, Ibiza
- Section: Music News Topics: Ibiza
For five years Jade Jagger (the daughter of the Stones’ Mick Jagger) has been in bed with Ibiza’s most opulent club Pacha to present her Jezebel concept in the club’s Global Room.
It seemed like the perfect partnership, with Jade Jagger’s creative and affluent friends such as Kate Moss, Damon Dash and Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran) coming together to discuss music and fashion in the surroundings of a club that has always emphasized elitism.
But now the model, jewelry designer and socialite has dumped Pacha for Amnesia, a club which is more known for its cutting-edge electronic music and sweaty dancefloor than its VIPs and yacht owning clientele.

Top Track: Pfirter ‘Mi Auto’
- Section: Music News Topics: DJ Gossip
Pfirter is Buenos Aires’ fast-rising star of techno and here with ‘Mi Auto’ he proves why his sounds are being caned on the underground.
‘Mi Auto’ features a ridiculously loud main synth that refuses to disappear, and the energy keeps on building throughout the track like a angry wasp on crack.
It’s a crazy listen, but on a club soundsystem it will be soul-destroying.
