WMC Weapons… Oscar G.

Just in time to wrap up this past week of glorious electronic music mayhem, this installment of dancefloor slayers comes from Miami’s own Oscar G. [a]

One half of the infamous Murk [a] production duo and eight-year resident of Miami’s Club Space, Oscar G. [a] has been an integral cog in the groovin’ wheel for close to two decades.

In a blend of neo-tribal drums, dark and sexy vocals, and melody rich basslines, we heard the damage firsthand during the Nervous Records [l] afterhours on Saturday night at Nocturnal, where he tore down the house as the sun rose.

Afterward, we grabbed this Miami man and grilled him for his choice cuts—peruse them below.

WMC Track: Jon Gracius ‘Give Up’

It’s always a thrill to stumble upon a gem on the eternal quest for the sickest tracks, and this housey stomper fits the bill for all things gem-worthy.

We can check off our list of ‘bomb’ prerequisites—all signs are ‘go’ for dancefloor chaos.

What’s in the DJ’s box? Adultnapper

Brooklyn’s Francis Harris, better known as his Adultnapper [a] alter-ego, has been bestowing his underground minimal house beneficence upon dancefloors since 2004 and this week we get to peer into the depths of his magical DJ box.

With punk rock roots and an initial distaste for dance music, this philosophy PhD dropout began his DJ and production career as a seemingly unwilling participant

Yet and still, he was pulled in to the dance music maelstrom, and in a reaction to the sounds that were dominant when he began dabbling, Harris developed a melody-rich and intricate style characterized by complex arrangements and deep atmospherics.

WMC Track: SIS ‘Bubu’

This first release on the brand new Mitu Records dropkicks us onto the darkest of dancefloors, and comes from the ever-mysterious Turkish SIS.

Following on last summer’s jazzy heater ‘Trompeta’, and this winter’s Vanessa Williams bootleg-sampled ‘Nesrib’, SIS once again works his eerie magic with ‘Bubu’, in what can only be destined for WMC greatness.

Fake Blood Essential Mix

British house and electro producer Fake Blood [a], aka DJ Touché, scooped up this week’s Essential Mix and breaks it down into two parts: One that bumps the club and the second which takes you straight to the afterparty.

Fake Blood is one half of indie dance outfit The Black Ghosts [a] and has original productions that include club cuts ‘Mars’ and ‘Splashing Blood’ (Fake Blood Theme), as well as more mainstream tunes ‘Start the Commotion’ and ‘Ooh La La’ that broke into the big time with commercials for Mitsubishi and Budweiser.

In this driving selection you’ll find tracks from Hatiras [a], Hot Chip [a], Simian Mobile Disco [a] and several selections and remixes from the faker himself.

What’s in the DJ’s box? Spencer Parker

Spencer Parker is a DJ and producer very much on the ascendancy.

We could bang on about his appearances for Liebe Detail [l], Buzzin Fly Records [l] and Tsuba [l]. Or the fact he’s signed to the highly respected UK imprint Rekids [l] and regularly plays out all over the globe. But what you should know first and foremost about Spencer, is he’s a genuine and likeable sort of fella from London, who endeavours to play cutting-edge house and techno of the highest order.

Oh, and he’s about to release a mix CD called ‘Rekids Revolution’.

Spencer allowed us to peek into his record box ahead of another busy weekend, in order to understand the influences behind the man.

WMC Track: Oscar G. ‘Chunky Buddha’

Just in time for WMC, Miami native Oscar G. [a] adds this deep and tribal monster to the arsenal of the Innervisions [l] ‘Secret Weapons’ series.

Coming from one half of the production outfit and label Murk [a] who are said to have helped define the house sound of the the ‘90s, particularly in Miami, we can expect that this one will drop once again like an A-bomb on Miami’s dancefloors if this veteran’s instincts are in place.

Do away with all wholesome thoughts of sun and surf here, as this one feels more like the beginnings of a long night, with grit, grime and danger to boot.

Who is EDX?

Swiss electro house rising superstar EDX [a] has been ripping up dancefloors left, right and center with remixes of tunes like Kaskade’s ‘Angel on My Shoulder’, this winter’s recent feel good house hit, ‘What a Wonderful World’ from Axwell, Bob Sinclar and Ron Caroll, and releases on quality imprints like Toolroom [l], Defected [l], PinkStar Records [l] and Sirup Records [l].

He’s also been nominated for a Beatport Music Award, so we figured it was about time to catch up with this mysterious up and comer and find out more about his path into dance music and DJing.

Video: ‘Monday Morning’

Sharam Jey’s new video for ‘Monday Morning’, with LouLou Players featuring Princess Superstar, looks like about as much fun as a barrel of monkeys.

Whip cream, inflatable pool toys, animal masks and fireworks take leading roles in this fun and irreverent video, and might just inspire some new party games.

Showtek and Kidd Kaos Essential Mix

In honor of the Hard Dance Awards that took place in Leeds last week, this week’s Essential Mix showcases the skills of two of the genre’s strongest talent, Showtek [pictured] and Kidd Kaos.

Winner of this year’s Best DJ award, Dutch duo Showtek also took the crown for Best Track with their hit ‘Hold Us Back’, following up last year’s victory in the same category.

‘Best New Face’ went to Kidd Kaos, a 20-year-old DJ and producer hailing from Cornwall who also co-heads the ‘Trancefuzion Collective’ (TFC) record label and has been busy carving out a musical path for himself for seven years now.

Check out what these champions have to offer after the break.
