- Biography:
Alicia’s passion for music runs deep in her veins, having always had a deep appreciation for music finding a way to express it was a long time coming when she finally decided to take up djing. Her love of music made her explore many diffrent genra’s and era’s, through her teen years she was obsessed with the radio following Aus and US Charts. Finding her voice at an early age drew her to taking singing lessons and her teacher inspiring her practice all styles made her look deeper into the many styles music had to offer broadening her knowledge and awareness.
After many years of listening and observing she was inspired to give djing a go. Once she had her turntables it very quickly became an obsession firstly to establish her record collection and then to find a way to justify the money she was pouring into it. It wasn’t long before she found some opportunities to get out of the “bedroom” and play to an audience starting with a regular spot at Liquorice Lounge in Melbourne and playing at some independant nights such as Unify @ Two Floors Up and venues such as A Bar Called Barry and 16 Ellis Street. Finding an agent working in Melbourne she furthered her career doing private parties, before landing her first residency at a trendy club / resturant “D Bar”.
Her djing came to a grinding halt when her entire working music collection was stolen, in a time when mp3’s and downloading was still a new concept, her insurance covered the loss, but the process of reestablising her collection would have her take quite a reasonable break before venturning out to clubs again. Once she was back on track she landed some gigs at the Geelong Hotel and Soma, opportunities also started presenting themself through her affiliation with the inthemix website where she had the opportunity to play in Sydney at the Scarey Canary along side predominant locals such as Robbie Lowe, and then later supporting Ricky Ryan (Argentina) in Brisbane.
Alicia now holds a weekly residency at Element Lounge in Melbourne on Friday nights, her relentless search for quality tunes creates a unique style that embraces deep sexy tech and funky progressive house which sets her aside from most dj’s with in the local Melbourne scene. Further establishing her career she has recently been approached by several upcoming music labels to be the A&R;representative. Stay tuned as we will be sure to hear more from this passionate young lady.
