South America Uncovered: In Trance with Istmo Music
Fernando Kriete is the owner of Istmo Records, one of the most innovative and successful labels in Latin America.
Istmo focuses on trance, and now, originating in El Salvador, the label is one of the most prestigious in Latin America.
Kriete balances being a musician and administrator, and has mixed as a DJ since 16 years of age.
“One of our goals at Istmo is to discover and to successfully launch the careers of the best artists in Latin America,” Kriete comments on the label’s approach.
Istmo Music, like a few other labels in South America, works as an artist agency and in event production, too — joining forces with artists from different places in Latin America.

Jose M fuels Trébol Records with ‘Higher (El Vuelo)’
Jose M is one of the most interesting artists right now in Colombia.

He moves along the minimal style and he plays a little with electro rhythms, which is very popular in that part of South America, as evidenced by his latest release.

Sonica brings beats to the world
The prestigious e-music academy, Sonica, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is about to start a new cycle and it’s recruiting people from all of South America and beyond to start its new courses for 2008.
Some of the degrees available include ‘Electronic Music Career’ and the ‘Mixing and Recording for the Home Studio’.

Chilean police find crystal meth at Tiësto concert
DJ Tiësto’s image in South America has been tarnished by a drugs scandal after police caught two men with 5.4 grams of crystal meth and over 80 pills at his concert in Santiago on 5th October 2007.

South America Uncovered: Part 8: Brazilian Labels Volume 2
In our quest to know more about the prestigious Brazilian labels, we met with artists who are established in the scene.
Tropic Records is one of the most prolific labels in South America with lots of styles and collaborations from artists from all around the world.
In this installation of South America Uncovered, we spoke with the label manager for Tropic Records, who also happens to be one of the label’s most successful artists, Renato Patriarca. We also talked with Rodolfo Wehbba, one of Tropic’s leading artists.
