Here’s a video I filmed from the DJ booth of Amnesia in Ibiza, which shows Dutch trance DJ Armin Van Buuren playing an amazing trance record - DJ Shah ‘Back To You’.

As you can see from the video, Armin loves the track as did the thousands of trance fans on the dancefloor!

Music mash up gone mad?

The great thing about music is that there’s something for everyone, and everyone’s entitled to their own tastes.

But there’s a time and a place for certain music scenes.

You wouldn’t attend The Big Chill and find yourself in a mosh pit, and you don’t expect a dance music festival’s line-up to include a rapper.

The controversial decision for Kanye West to headline the UK’s Global Gathering event this year inspired much debate and was a hot topic on forums everywhere.

Global Gathering UK: Trance headliners

“I really don’t like that,” said one trance fan as Armin van Buuren climbed onto the decks in the Godskitchen Arena after playing his set at this year’s Global Gathering. “He’s not that good.”

But thousands disagreed. After playing a set that blinding, he could re-enact Michael Jackson’s controversial Jesus impression and even Jarvis Cocker wouldn’t protest.

Global Gathering: Micky Slim

Micky Slim is one of those rare artists who fully embraces the culture of dance music.

He remembers why he got into the scene in the first place, which is why he made the effort to attend this year’s UK Global Gathering for the whole weekend, rather than simply flying in, playing his set and leaving.

In fact, he enjoyed mingling with the other festival goers so much he stood us up twice because he was having such a good time! But when we finally did catch up with the electro house DJ from Birmingham, here’s what he had to say.

Global Gathering: The Proof that Trance Music is alive and well!

At the UK’s Global Gathering event last weekend, the Godskitchen Arena (Europe’s largest festival tent) was as it usually is; packed out throughout the whole of the weekend.

Most of the people we asked said they had gone to the festival to see the trance headliners and all of the music we heard being played on iPod docking stations around the campsite was trance (mainly Sander van Doorn), with the exception of some Deadmau5 (even his records often contain some trance-like qualities).

Top Trance Release: Marcel Woods ‘Beautiful Mind 08’
