Kinetic (Prok & Fitch Golden Shower Remix)
Golden Girls [Floorplay]
- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: DJ Gossip
UK based Floorplay cleverly maneuvered the licensing of the Golden Girls classic ‘Kinetic’, made famous by the Orbital remix, which was originally released on R&S Records in 1992.
The Prok & Fitch boys from Brighton were commissioned for the remix project after causing quite a stir with their recent mixes on Stealth and Subversive.

Drumcode Tour: Chicken wings and gadgets in Toronto
- Section: Music News Topics: Drumcode Tour
“Are you a wings man?” asks Adam Beyer on the plane over from New York to Toronto. Today’s trip is only a 70 minute hop, which in the world of DJ travel, is a cool breeze.
“You know, chicken wings? Whenever I come to the States, I have to get chicken wings. Pizza too. Eating the specialties of a region is part of the fun of traveling,” he says, grinning.

No shout outs here, love
- Section: Music News Topics: Drumcode Tour
Adam Beyer and Joel Mull are universes away from the DJ that played at your school disco – they don’t wear flannel shirts or moustaches – but that didn’t stop a girl last night at Cielo from handing them a napkin in their middle of their set with a scribbled message asking for a shout out for her mate.
Er…sorry love, they don’t do ‘shout outs’.

‘Where’s My Money’ (Caspa Remix)
TC [DStyle]
- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: DJ Gossip
For a label that’s associated with releasing drum & bass anthems, and the massive 2007 album that was TC’s ‘Evolution’, putting out a dubstep record could seem risqué.
However, with the level of support this track has received from the D & B community, including Roni Size and Fabio, this is bound to be the track that further blurs the boundaries and completely crosses the dubstep / drum & bass divide.

‘Bacala’
Stephan Hinz [Audiomatique Records]...
- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: DJ Gossip
Berliner Stephan Hinz says on his MySpace page: “I really love music from people like Apparat, Sigur Ros, Coldplay, Barry White, Rachmaninov, Bela Bartok and so many more.
“It’s a big failure to confine oneself to just one genre or something like that...I try to listen to as much as I can.
“It’s so fantastic and exciting to find something you never heard before or something you heard a long time ago but with other ears.”
As a DJ and radio show host for his own show ‘Dasding Plattenleger’ on Berlin stations SWR DASDING and SR UNSERDING, Hinz listens to a lot of music in addition to producing his own.
Now Hinz has just completed a new EP called ‘Bacala’ on Audiomatique Records.

Tech News Roundup: October 10, 2008
- Section: Music News Topics: Technology
In an ironic twist, this week’s tech news tidbits almost seemed a tad more interesting than all the hoopla that surrounded last week’s AES show in San Francisco.
What with the AES-related ProTools 8 announcement, Brian Eno’s new iPhone app, a sneak peak at Justice’s touring rig, and some tube-based exotica, it was a surprisingly fun week overall.

Interview Feature: Mark Farina’s trip from house to Mushroom Jazz
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
Some producers seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time, reaping a whole slew of serendipitous benefits afforded to them by circumstance alone.
Other artists work hard, keeping their heads down to get the job done.
Mark Farina on the other hand, manages to combine the two to form a synergistic union of industrious skill and luck which has led to a constant wave of success.
From his jackin’ Chicago house roots to San Francisco’s west coast sound, Mark Farina has been a purveyor of fine beats for well over a dozen years.
Now he returns with his critically acclaimed downtempo acid jazz series, ‘Mushroom Jazz 6’, whose seminal release saw the light of day 12 years ago in 1996.

‘Gorilla’
Idiotproof [Made To Play]
- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: DJ Gossip
Jesse Rose’s Made To Play imprint brings a much welcomed new light to the electro house world with the latest release from Idiotproof, a track designed to smack club goers around with absolutely wonky beats and basslines as filthy as a five dollar street-walking prostitute.

Details of DJ Mag’s Top 100 party announced
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
With voting officially closed for the annual DJ Mag Top 100 poll, attentions now turn to the results party which takes place this year at London’s Ministry of Sound, October 29th.
Among those performing on the night will be French techno connoisseur Laurent Garnier, the currently all-conquering Deadmau5, Ibiza mainstay David Guetta, Toolroom boss Mark Knight and the ‘Worlds Number 1 DJ’ who has apparently been confirmed.
The line-up is notable by its distinct lack of trance artists who regularly dominate the standings and in particular the top 10.

‘Shifting Gears’ (Stanton Warriors Remix)
Plump DJs [Finger Lickin Records]
- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: Beatport Blog
Unbelievably, the Stanton Warriors and the Plump DJs have never paired up before, so the partnership of two of the largest and most influential groups in breakbeat is a news event indeed.
Since ‘Shifting Gears’ was dropped by the Stantons at this year’s Glastonbury festival, the internet has been buzzing with rumours about the track’s imminent arrival, and finally those rumours have come true.

Drumcode Tour kicks off with a bang
- Section: Music News Topics: Drumcode Tour
The Drumcode Tour hit the ground running tonight in New York City, the first chapter of a North American techno story that’ll run for the next two weeks.
The odds were against Adam Beyer and Joel Mull today, what with the Dow Jones having dropped to its lowest level in three years and it being the biggest Jewish holiday of the year, Yom Kippur. Those two factors could have affected the number of attendees.
Tonight’s venue Cielo, too, ain’t known for hosting banging techno as it’s more of a house music club, but by 1am the driving percussive techno of the Swedish duo, clocked in at around 130 bpms, didn’t scare off Cielo’s well-dressed crowd who are used to things being less frenetic.

London Blog: Tiny Sticks label showcase
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
When I do actually get round to writing this, I tend to try and pick at least a couple of my favourite nights that are taking place over the weekend.
This week though, I have chosen just a singular event as (in my opinion at least) there is one party that towers over any other that takes place over those two free days that we work all week for.

JPLS on his new ‘Combination EP’ for Minus
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
JPLS made his first Minus appearance on 2006’s ‘min2MAX’ compilation.
He also performed live that year in Detroit for the ‘min2MAX’ launch showcase.
JPLS’ sound is cerebral and heady dub-infused techno that is strictly experimental but dancefloor oriented.
His latest release in September this year is the ‘Combination EP’, which follows his ‘Twilite’ release on Minus (check the EP in the player below).
We like JPLS’ style a lot, so we grabbed him for a few questions.
