Saeed Younan Secures His Own Port In The Middle East
- Section: Music News
That’s right, folks: Saeed Younan, international DJ and producer has developed and secured his own port and area in the world, somewhere around his home country of Iraq and close by Dubai.
When asked how this came about he simply replied, “From all my years of DJing and producing and traveling around the world, I invested my money in real estate for hopes of future profits on a rainy day, ‘cause you never know when this whole DJing thing may come to an end.
I developed Port Saeed as a means to show of all the hard work over the years through my love and passion for electronica music”
Check the in depth interview of how it all started.

Kenny Larkin releases new album
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
After a bit of delay, the venerable Kenny Larkin of Detroit fame has a new album to be released on September 2nd titled ‘Keys, Strings and Tambourines’, on Carl Craig’s Planet E label.
Larkin states that it’s his most dancefloor-oriented album yet, and he actually did a bit of globe-trotting to find inspiration: Carl’s proper studio environment in Detroit found him hammering away, and while in Australia on tour he found enough head space to create ‘Glob Glob’, one of the singles he is particularly fond of.

Richie Hawtin on the Minus family’s roots
- Section: Music News Topics: Beatport Blog
The artists on Richie Hawtin’s Minus record label are a tightly knit group.
Gaiser, Magda, Heartthrob, Marc Houle, Troy Pierce and Hawtin are often called the Minus family, so close is the bond between them all.
“All the artists on Minus came to the label through different paths,” says Richie.
“The funny thing is, all of the guys in the family grew up through the early Plus 8 and Plastikman parties.
“The whole team attended these early Plastikman/Hawtin parties, and became inspired to get deeper into music.
“Between all of us now, it’s like there is this feedback loop between being inspired and inspiring.”

Remember when you were four, and you used to open your mouth and make that hideously annoying noise, gradually slowing it down until your voice box was clicking like a giga counter?
Well then check out this video of a guy who, after an 11-day stint with STEIM [Amsterdam’s research center for electronic performance arts tools], created this homebrew synth that sounds like a cyborg baby trying to gurgle its first words.
