Nappy Riddem releaed new single “RASTAR”
Fort Knox Recordings
presents
Nappy Riddem - ‘Rastar’
Featuring remixes by Ursula 1000
& Quincy Jointz
“Rastar” is the second release from Fort Knox Recordings ragga-psychedelic funk project Nappy Riddem. This time the trio comprised of producer/DJ Rex Riddem, Fort Knox Five & Thunderball vocalist Mustafa Akbar, and Thievery Corporation Bassist Ashish ‘Hash’ Vyas, is joined by guitarist Rob “International Velvet” Myers, who also plays with Thievery Corporation, See-I and Fort Knox Five.
The collaboration brings forth a funky breaks bouncer with a reggae skank, metal guitar solos and a dubby breakdown. “Rastar” melds these elements with Mustafa Akbar’s Parliament style harmonies and Rex Riddem’s vocals that sound like a cross between Prince and B Real.
Ragga rockstars come to life in this tune. The lyrics paint metaphors of longhaired rockers with Rasta attitudes. Concepts that inspire Nappy Riddem and help shape the music that they write. Funk, Rock, and Reggae, what a great trinity. Here comes the Rastar!
For this single we asked two friends from across the globe to work up phat reworks of Rastar. The first remix was done by someone who is no stranger to Fort Knox, Ursula 1000. Our man Alex, twisted it into a wobbly funk breaks mix with electro synths. The spaced out vocal hook and bassline, will make this monster rock any stage large or small. Next up is our good buddy Quincy Jointz from Freiburg, Germany. We have been rocking out with Quincy for ages. He gave us a copy of his first tune when it was on acetate. History brothas & sistas! Mr Jointz gave Rastar a serious party beat with some funky scratches, and a dope house groove. Another surefire dance floor bomb!

Fort Knox Recordings releases SEE-I with Rodney Hunter Remix
Fort Knox Recordings presents
SEE-I – “How Could You”
featuring remix by Rodney Hunter
After years of collaborating with vocalists Rootz and Zee (Thievery Corporation
& See-I), Fort Knox Recordings
is excited to release the See-I single “How Could You.” The Fort Knox family has come full circle after sharing stages, musicians, and production for years with See-I.
Washington, DC’s own Thomas Blondet
of Rhythm & Culture Music originally produced the laid back, conscious vibe of “How Could You.” Blondet’s production combined with the smooth vocals of Rootz and Zee are the perfect combination. With a classic reggae feel, intelligent lyrics and a good dance floor beat How Could You delivers the goods.
For this first See-I single on Fort Knox Recordings, we have called on legendary producer Rodney Hunter
for a brilliant remix. His remake is featured on the upcoming New Gold Standard 2 compilation out this fall on Fort Knox Recordings. Rodney Hunter, from Kruder & Dorfmeister
’s G-Stoned Label, has remixed Fort Knox Five as well as the Gravediggaz, Doug E Fresh, Tosca and many more. This veteran remixer puts his unique touch on How Could You to make a wicked dubby tune with some serious skank going on.

B2. Not Gonna Take It (Rob Paine Dub Remix)
The tenth single in Fort Knox Five
‘s RADIO FREE DC Remixed series features remixes from QDUP Foundations and Rob Paine.
For the tenth, and final single in the Radio Free DC Remixed Series, we asked our longtime friends, QDUP Foundation, to phatten UP The FK Strut. The QDUP boys took a funked out approach, twisting it into a Parliament flavored jam with crazy synth lines, space age noises, and dirty horns. This tune is a guaranteed P.A.R.T.Y.
For the flip side, Rob Paine
of Worship Recordings & Solomonic Sound System, took the reggae vibe of Not Gonna Take It, and turned it into a dubby house groove. Full of punchy bass stabs, and the dubbed out vocals of Rootz of See-I. Also included is Rob Paine’s Dub mix. Sure to be a hit with cross-over house / breaks / reggae djs worldwide!

Fort Knox Five remixed by Rodney Hunter and Shimon
Fort Knox Recordings presents
RADIO FREE DC REMIXED VOL. 9
featuring remixes by Rodney Hunter
& Shimon
Artist: Fort Knox Five
Release: Radio Free DC Remixed Vol. 9
Label: Fort Knox Recordings
Catalog #: FKX022
A1. Uptown Tricks (Rodney Hunter Remake)
B1. Uptown Tricks (Shimon’s Trix Mix)
The ninth single in Fort Knox Five’s RADIO FREE DC Remixed series features remixes from Rodney Hunter
of G-Stone in Austria & our man Shimon
from Ram Records in the UK.
Back in 2003, we completed our first official Fort Knox Five remix for a man named Rodney Hunter. He is one of our brethren from our favorite city of Wien in Austria. Rodney is no stranger to all styles of music. He was an integral part of the seminal Space Age Hip Hop group the Aphrodelics, and has been releasing music on Kruder & Dorfmeister’s G-Stoned label since it’s inception. On Uptown Tricks featuring Mustafa Akbar, Rodney’s Remake takes you on the smoothest disco journey. Adding synth lines, and upping the tempo of the vocal, shed a whole new light on Tricks. Sure to be a hit with all djs who are not scared to dabble in multi-genres or cross tempos.
On the flipside, we went a slightly different route. While discussing the state of music in a little trailer on the beach in Ucluelet, BC at the amazing Soundwave Festival last year, Shimon decided he wanted to take a stab at flipping Uptown Tricks into a drum & bass rinser. Could it be done?!?!?! There was no better person to take a stab at it than Shim!! In our opinion Shimon, and his label Ram Records have released some of the most forward thinking D&B cuts to date. He took that slow mellow funk burner, and turned Trix into a monster of basslines, and dirtiness. All the while keeping the smoothness of the original. Another cut, that will find it’s way into the set of many djs, drum and bass, or not!!
FUNK 4 PEACE!

RADIO FREE DC REMIXED VOL. 8
featuring remixes by Smalltown Romeo & Lars Moston
The eighth single in Fort Knox Five’s RADIO FREE DC Remixed series features blazing remixes from Smalltown Romeo and Lars Moston.
Smalltown Romeo is the killer combination of our longtime homies from Calgary, Alberta. Consisting of Mike & Pete from the Smalltown DJs, and Wax Romeo. These guys are about to start making serious waves on the production tip. The trio have had some time to fine tune there production abilities with the long running Hai Karate night @ their HiFi Club. The night is always packed and always proper, the boys have an amazing ear for what makes things rock on the floor. Their remix of The Party Pushers featuring Mustafa Akbar is no different. A guaranteed electro-funk party rocker.
On the flip side, Lars Moston
, whips up a mad frenzy with his remix of Killa Soundboy featuring Sleepy Wonder and Zeebo. Moston has been out in the European scene for a bit. We originally met Lars Moston through our good buddy Malente, He talent for rinsing out massive tunes is amazing. Lars version is an electro house banger, with the nastiest wobble bassline, and a super heavy beat. This tune will send the dance-floor into a whirlwind.
This record has already been receiving heavy play from a list of diverse DJs, such as DJ Dan (Instereo), Malente
(Southern Fried/Berlin Battery), Aquasky (Passenger) to name a few.

Ali B and Boca 45 give Fort Knox Five the remix treatment
The fifth single in Fort Knox Five’s RADIO FREE DC Remixed series pays tribute to old and nu school funk with 45 rpm-inspired remixes. They will be released as a limited edition 7” in recognition of the 60 year anniversary of the 45rpm record.
