Steve Lawler’s Top 5 tour tracks

Wrapping up our Viva Tour live blog coverage is the man himself, Steve Lawler, who reveals exclusively to Beatportal five tracks that have dominated his club sets during this mammoth North American tour.

“Throughout the whole tour there have been some tracks that I’ve played during every set and they represent the sound that I play, taken from different times of the night,” says Steve.

Here are the big five tracks of the Viva tour. Get set.

Viva Tour: A weird night in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Imagine walking down the street of a small city in the middle of America on a Tuesday night.

You see a shitty looking bar called the Moonlight Lounge with black plastic bags over the windows and a few teenagers wearing baseball caps smoking outside.

Across the quiet, yellow windswept street you hear the faintest sounds of music, a deep thumping bass and an occasional hi hat that blows over the wind.

‘Hell, might as well have a beer there,’ you think. Seems as good a place as any.

Viva Tour bus crabs (cribs), by Anthony Audiofly

Anthony from Audiofly takes us deep inside the smoke-infested electronic music van otherwise known as the Viva Tour bus.

For 12 days these DJs have slept, eaten, peed (no shitting is allowed) and smoked on this bus as it travels across North America and it’s starting to smell (which you can’t tell through our video).

Steve Lawler’s mobile Viva studio

From these photos you’d imagine Steve Lawler and Audiofly to be sitting in a posh music studio in London, but we are in fact on a tour bus traveling through the Arizona desert at about 50mph.

Viva in Montreal: Audiofly

Check out Audiofly mightily warming up the stage at Tribe in Montreal for Steve Lawler on the first leg of their North American tour.

Lawler and Audiofly take on San Francisco’s Harlot

11.42pm Steve Lawler, manager Dave and a small entourage of San Francisco friends enter a backstreet glosser known as the Harlot.

It’s a plush kinda place, with a tightly designed interior that’s part goth, part hunting lodge.

“It’s a shame you couldn’t see the warehouse,” says one of the entourage as we walk towards the DJ booth.

Tonight’s party was supposed to be at a secret location, an illegal warehouse, but last week the cops busted the joint.

Viva Tour rolls into San Francisco. Just.

Stepping onto the Viva tour bus today in a parking lot in downtown San Francisco, felt like walking into an after after party in the last stages of a wind down.

Anthony from Audiofly was hunched over in a corner smoking; peering into the distance at an imaginary mirage, that no doubt promised some sort of nourishment.

“I need food. Where’s the food man?” he muttered.

Steve Lawler and the other Audiofly Luca wandered into the front cabin wearing neon sunglasses, their gaunt faces displaying days of cyclical excess and strain.

The circle of life for these men recently has been like a video of an explosion, that you rewind to watch over and over again.

Viva Tour through Audiofly Luca’s sleepy eyes

Despite being the sleepiest DJ on the bus, Audiofly’s Luca has managed to scrabble an amusing account of the Viva Tour thus far, through his eyes.

In his post, Luca reveals how Steve Lawler has renamed Audiofly Ant & Dec (well known TV presenters from the UK) and how he’s being bullied by everybody, in good sport.

Here’s Luca’s snapshot.

Viva Tour comes out shooting

The Viva Tour is well underway, and when I join Steve Lawler, Audiofly and Tiefschwarz on their tour bus on Sunday hopefully I’ll be able to document some of funny things going on and some of the excellent music that’s being played.

I’ll be blogging live from the Viva Tour bus from Sunday October 26th - Friday 31st October taking in San Francisco, Albuquerque and Dallas as well as countless small towns and freeways, but ahead of that the boys have been sending over their videos which, quite rightly, reveal them to be teetering on the verge of insanity.

In one of them, it’s revealed that the boys went to a gun store and played around with shotguns and ridiculously large magnums as part of their ‘discovery’ of the ole’ USA.

Anyway, try understanding these three videos, if you can. Next week looks like it’ll be a lot of fun.

Steve Lawler’s Viva tour diary: Part One

On October 16th Steve Lawlerhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif and Audioflyhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif embarked on the maiden gig of a thirteen-date North American tour in Montreal.

Taking in dates right across the continent, the British-based artists will be bunking up until October 28th when German brothers-in-arms Tiefschwarzhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif will join Lawler for a performance in Albuquerque and then for the remaining four dates.

Seizing the chance to throw a little creative curve-ball into the mix, the tour bus has been fully equipped with with studio facilities to accommodate the DJ/producers’ musical urges between gigs.

The aim is to get an EP locked down for release on Viva music before the end of the tour, but, as you will read below in Steve Lawler’s first exclusive diary entry for Beatportal, life on the road is tough…
