Robyn featuring Röyksopp remix contest

In 2007, Robyn’s anthemic dance ballad ‘With Every Heartbeat’ reached number one in the UK, and the following year her Grammy-nominated album ‘Robyn’ went on to reach platinum status. How do you top that? Now the diminutive Swede is set to release a triple album in three installments. ‘Body Talk Pt 1’ picks up where ‘Robyn’ left off, with the emphasis on those sweeping, emotional dance tracks and the biting, quirky electro pop with which she made her name.

For Beatport’s next remix contest, Robyn is offering producers parts to ‘None Of Dem’, her collaboration with Röyksopp from her ‘Body Talk Pt 1’ album.

“The track which became ‘None Of Dem’ started as a beat which I already had, and loved, so it was obvious it would develop into something more,” says Robyn. “It is a really important track on ‘Body Talk Pt 1.’ Lots of people are really into it, we thought it would be interesting to see how others would reinterpret it by giving them the opportunity to remix the track!”

After much deliberation and several hours spent poring over nearly 300 entries, a Grand Prize winner has been chosen.

Franz Ferdinand voting for the remix contest finishes soon

Earlier last month, we challenged aspiring producers to remix Scottish indie dance group Franz Ferdinand’s yet unreleased track ‘Ulysses’ in any style or genre they liked.

So far hundreds of electronic music fans have cast their votes by ‘spinning’ their favorite remixes.

If you haven’t voted yet, you should hurry as voting closes tonight at 11:59 PM (MST).

The top five user-generated ‘spun’ remixes will be sent straight to Domino Records and Franz Ferdinand, along with another five remixes painstakingly chosen by Beatportal’s editors.

After the deliberation period, the winner will be announced on Beatportal on 29th December 2008.

‘Music is the Answer’ remixes released on Twisted

Back in August, we challenged up and coming producers to remix the classic Danny Tenaglia and Celeda house anthem, ‘Music is the Answer’. 

After sorting through hundreds of entries, the public and Beatportal’s team of experts sent 20 remixes to Twisted Records and from there, three winners were chosen to have their remixes released on Twisted Records.

The full package of 10 remixes has arrived on Beatport, which includes a brand new remix from Rob Rives, who was the engineer on the original 1999 recording, plus long out-of-print and rare remixes from Cevin Fisher, Future Shock, Brother Brown, and Stephane K.

Franz Ferdinand ‘Ulysses’ remix competition

Scottish indie dance group Franz Ferdinandhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif has teamed up with Beatportal to challenge aspiring producers to remix a forthcoming track from their new album.

But in a twist that the band hopes will lead to more unique and diverse remixes, the original of ‘Ulysses’ is not being made available to contestants as it will only be released in January.

The idea is to create a hotpot of remixes that are not tainted by the direction and mood of the original version.

Franz Ferdinand’s lead vocalist Alex Kapranos told Beatportal that the band “want to be surprised by the geniuses out there that no one has heard of yet.”

As well as having their remix released on Domino Records, the winner will also receive 500€. Not bad.

Audion ‘Billy Says Go’ remix winners!

Audion’s ‘Billy Says Go’ remix contest saw 537 aspiring producers put their skills to work and submit their best remix, and we sent the top five remixes as voted for by the public and another five chosen by Beatport genre managers to Spectral Sound and Matthew Dear.

Of these ten, a winner and two runners-up have been chosen. 

Spectral have not yet decided whether they will release any of the winners but they are considering all three, and will make a decision within the next few weeks

Leading techno artist Matthew Dear aka Audion is offering fans a chance to remix one of the biggest techno tracks of 2008, Audion’s ‘Billy Says Go’ on Spectral Sound.

Two remix parts are available to download for free, and there’s also a premium bundle for sale for $3.99 containing all the parts to ‘Billy Says Go’.

Participants are free to remix the track into whatever genre they like, and the top remixes will be listened to by Spectral Sound.

At the strong urgings of our readers, we have decided to make public the full list of finalists that was sent to Twisted Records for the Danny Tenaglia and Celeda remix competition.

We thought that everyone who placed in the Editor’s Choice category would be happy to know that they made it that far, and we also figured there’s no point in not sharing that information.

We want to reiterate that these entries were painstakingly chosen by the Beatport Genre Managers regardless of the number of spins and comments, so every remix got a fair shot.

‘Music is the Answer’ remix winners!

Last month’s Twisted Records’ Danny Tenaglia featuring Celeda ‘Music Is the Answer’ remix contest saw 624 aspiring producers remix the house anthem ‘Music is the Answer’, with the top 10 remixes as voted for by the public sent to Twisted Records and the artists.

A further 25 remixes were chosen by Beatportal’s remix team, and Twisted Records made the final decision as to which remix would be included in the re-release of ‘Music Is the Answer’ on Twisted.
