Electro meets rap with ‘Jam On It’ by Newcleus

The year was 1984.

The early sound of electro had a fateful meeting with Brooklyn-style rap via the collective Jam-On Productions.

It started with ‘Jam On Revenge’ and somehow made its way to what we know today as ‘Jam On It’, and Jam-On Productions somehow became Newcleus.

Miraculously, as this video demonstrates, ‘Jam On It’ is as fresh today as ever.

Which means that their upcoming Detroit appearance for Movement this weekend should be just in time.

Final: Beatport Stage line-up for Movement 2008 in Detroit

The full line-up for Movement 2008 (the festival formerly known as DEMF) is revealed for the artists performing on the Beatport Stage for the entire weekend.

The annual affair, taking place on the riverside of Hart Plaza in the heart of downtown Detroit over Memorial Day Weekend, features artists heard on a premium sound system from both near and far.

This year’s roster is proving to be far more diverse and wide-ranging than ever.

In addition to the previously announced artist line-up that includes original DEMF co-founder Carl Craig, Cobblestone Jazz, DBX (Daniel Bell), Egyptian Lover and Speedy J, the Beatport Stage adds both more established and up-and-coming acts into the mix.

Some of the artists appearing on the Beatport Stage this year include live sets from Par Grindvik, Deadmau5, Alex Under, Heartthrob and Mathias Kaden, plus DJ appearances by Konrad Black, Marco Carola, Richie Hawtin, Davide Squillace, Josh Wink, Dubfire and more.

Movement/DEMF 2008 line-up announced

The line-up for Movement, Detroit’s electronic music festival, has been announced.

The festival takes place Memorial Day weekend from Saturday, May 24th through Monday, May 26th in Detroit, Michigan.

The festival that started as DEMF (The Detroit Electronic Music Festival) has been in existence since the year 2000, initially started by Pop Culture Media along with artistic director Carl Craig.

It has passed through the hands of various management, including Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and its current 3-year managing organization, Paxahau.

The festival holds a special place for fans of the roots of electronic music, as Detroit is credited as the birthplace of techno, and it is a bit of a return to Mecca for many of the genre’s fans.

Many noted up and coming performers have taken part in the event, as well as several mainstays that have helped to shape the sound in general, such as Kenny Dixon Jr. (AKA Moodymann), Scion (with a special secret appearance by Basic Channel), Inner City, Luomo, Underground Resistance, Derrick May and many more.

This year’s festivities include appearances by original DEMF co-founder Carl Craig, Cobblestone Jazz [main image], DBX (Daniel Bell), Egyptian Lover, Speedy J, Dubfire and many more.

Check out the full line-up so far by following the link. More artists will be announced at a future date.
