Video interview: Kaskade
3 April, 2009 | 11.05AMFashion label Armani Exchange decided to muscle in on WMC this year, and produced a few video interviews with some of the biggest names in dance music.
Here in this interview, Kaskadehttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif talks about the importance of WMC and about his new mix compilation ‘The Grand’, which is a “quick musical snapshot of what I’m doing in nightclubs”, with 10 of the tracks featured on the mix having been written or remixed by Kaskade himself.

WMC Track: Calvin Harris ‘I’m Not Alone’ (Deadmau5 Remix)
2 April, 2009 | 6.18PMIt would be impossible to imagine WMC this year without at least one Deadmau5http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif record dominating the Miami week. The all pervasive nature of his records is such that, even if you avoid going to see any electro house DJs and don’t visit any of the festivals or large clubs (where his music works best), you’ll still end up hearing his records over the radio, booming out of car stereos or echoing across hotel swimming pools from adjacent balconies.
Deadmau5 remix of Calvin Harris ‘I’m Not Alone’ is the mau5 record I heard a lot at WMC.

WMC Video: Stephan Bodzin on Lemur multi-touch
1 April, 2009 | 4.32PMJazzMutant’s beautiful multi-touch controller Lemur has carved itself a miniscule niche amongst electronic music producers who can afford its $2000 price tag, and on Sunday at the Beatport Pool Party at WMC Stephan Bodzinhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif demonstrated the awesome power of touch-screening (see, we turned it into a verb) a DJ set.

1 April, 2009 | 2.14PMIndie dance duo MSTRKRFThttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif a few moments ago announced that their forthcoming sophomore album ‘Fist of God’ will be released in June.
Describing ‘Fist of God’, Jesse F. Keeler said, “We tried to make ‘festival weapons,’ so when we play them, it’s like throwing a million hatchets into the audience.” Sounds brutal.

With a 60GB hard drive and lots of intuitive DJing functionality, the new Pacemaker promises to take DJ culture mainstream, onto the streets (and anywhere else for that matter).
The video is great fun and the new Pacemaker has a mightily impressive list of features that will satisfy even the DJs amongst us who take their craft seriously.

Steve Angello tshirt ode to Paris Hilton
30 March, 2009 | 12.24AMGood old Steve Angellohttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif is still smiling about his public bust up with Paris Hilton on Friday night. Despite being all over the celebrity news networks and tabloid newspapers about the infamous nightclub fight, he still found time out of his busy schedule to make a tshirt to commemorate the scandalous occasion.
“I [heart] Paris!” was the title of the tshirt he brought with him to the Beatport Pool Party today. We love Steve Angello.

Video: Laidback Luke avoids beachball DJing disaster
29 March, 2009 | 6.39PMHere’s a video of Laidback Lukehttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif narrowly avoiding a DJing disaster thanks to a giant beach ball at the Beatport Pool Party.
Well it was a pool party, so DJs have to expect these kinds of things to happen, but Luke’s lightening fast reactions managed to deflect the ball at the last second. Nice save.

The fancy things famous DJs get
29 March, 2009 | 4.31PM“Ooooh!” said Josh Wink yesterday at the Beatport Pool Party, “Look at my fancy headphones with my name all engraved on them. Aren’t they pretty?”
Ok so Wink didn’t really say it like a girl, but we’re going to pretend he did because we’re a little bit jealous of his personally engraved Pioneer headphones that were given to him yesterday as a present by some dudes from Pioneer.

WMC interview: LMFAO
29 March, 2009 | 2.29PMIt’s been two years since LMFAO released the Winter Music Conference’s unofficial theme song, “I’m in Miami, Bitch!”.
The proud parents of this dancefloor anthem are Red Foo and Sky Blu, the uncle/nephew team hailing from L.A. who have taken the world by storm with their unique style of electro hip-hop.
In addition to producing club bangers, they’ve been working on multiple clothing lines, a movie, signature liquor, a hot sauce, and anything else they can stamp their moniker on.
Unofficial remixes of Kanye West, Katy Perry, and Fergie have cemented a fan base that is salivating for more. Beatportal sat down with LMFAO before the WMC record release party to find out more.

Video: Steve Lawler drops a carnival cut
28 March, 2009 | 11.24PMHere’s a video of Steve Lawlerhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif dropping a carnival-house cut with a fabulous tribal vocal at the Beatport Pool Party at WMC 2009.
Steve Lawler to be fair, absolutely destroyed the pool party today, and he is quite “in the zone” as one might say about stars at the top of their game.

Steve Angello humiliates Paris Hilton, DJs worldwide rejoice
28 March, 2009 | 2.21AMThe princess of bottle service culture herself, Ms. famous-for-no-particular-reason, Paris Hilton, was publicly humiliated by Swedish House Mafia man Steve Angellohttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif in move that will leave DJs around the world cheering his name till the end of time.
The LA-based diva turned up at the 1OAK party at Angello’s showcase at WMC on Thursday night/Friday morning, and found his music “was not even danceable and was frankly giving me a migraine.”
Hilton asked one of her friends who runs the hotel to change the music and the manager said between emphatic kisses of her ass, “I’ll lead you up to the DJ booth and he’ll play whatever you want.”
The age old battle between ignorant, over-privileged wannabes and DJs trying to do their best just went front and centre. Brilliant.

Video: An unexpected WMC bomb
27 March, 2009 | 9.42PMAn unexpected WMC bomb emerged tonight - a remix of Joe Arroyo’s ‘La Tortuga’ that was played by DJ Sneak, Laidback Luke, Dennis Ferrer and The Martinez Brothers today at the Beatport Pool Party.
It’s a Latino house track that features a chorus of Latino vocals, plenty of tribal drums and a driving bassline.
