The Space Brothers ‘Shine’: Dance Anthem!
8 October, 2007 | 3.48AMVocal trance is now a taboo genre amongst clubbers. Having been raped and pillaged by fat cat record companies looking to make a quick buck, vocal trance has become nothing more than a commercial sound aimed at extracting as much money as possible from 12-year-old girls who watch MTV Dance.
A little cynical perhaps, but the truth of the matter is when the Space Brothers [pictured] released ‘Shine’ way back in 1997, vocal-led trance music was still a credible genre.
‘Shine’ sounded incredibly fresh and vibrant when it first came out and the track was played in clubs as well as on the radio.
The track was a big success, but unfortunately its commercial success helped contribute to the tide of copycat vocal trance cheese that has since followed in the past decade.
It might even be the blueprint that major record companies use when looking to create another ‘dance’ hit.

Slam ‘Positive Education’: Dance Anthem
27 September, 2007 | 2.00AMWay back in 1993 Scottish techno duo Slamhttp://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif released this monumental techno track that changed the face of British electronic music forever. ‘Positive Education’ and the equally important B side ‘Intensities in-Ten-Cities’ paved the way for the rise of Slam and still to this day both tracks sound wicked on a loud soundsystem.

The beautiful vocals of British singer Cassandra Fox merged perfectly with Rui Da Silva’s dark hypnotic synth melody which to this day, still send shivers down my spine.

Underworld ‘Born Slippy’: Dance Anthem
7 September, 2007 | 12.13PM‘Drive boy, dog boy, dirty numb angel boy, in the doorway boy, she was a lipstick boy, she was a beautiful boy’ and it continues. We all know the words, meaningless as they are. The point is, that’s the sign of an anthem. If you know all the words, it means the track has been ingrained into your brain.
