Everyone loves a Google doodle, but this one released today to celebrate the 78th birthday of departed synthesizer pioneer Robert Moog is pretty hard to top—especially for gear nerds like us. Today’s doodle is a fully functional Minimoog replete with a Record function, so you can capture all the silly noodling you’re about to do.

Check out XLR8R’s Braiden podcast and download the tracks on Beatport

Rinse FM host Braiden may not have a ton of productions to his name thus far, but as a DJ, his work is in a category all its own. Well, sort of. You’re actually pretty likely to hear his name floated about the Night Slugs and Blunted Robots camps of UK youngsters taking a fresh, bass-centric approach to house and techno, but his skills as a mixer are indeed top-notch.

Bomb Alert! Pulp Disco & The Outcasts - Space Dust

As we morn the loss of legendary diva Donna Summer, it’s hard to firmly grasp the importance she had on not just mainstream disco, but Italo-disco via her collaborations with Giorgio Moroder. The reverberations of that pair can be felt today more than ever as Italo and nu-disco permeate nearly every crevice of underground dance music. Case in point, today’s Bomb Alert, ”Space Dust,” by Pulp Disco & The Outcast.

Weekend Weapons: Quenum

Geneva’s Philippe Quenum (better known simply as Quenum) clearly does not understand the concept of taking a break. The man’s career as a DJ and producer reaches all the way back to—no joke—the early ‘80s, and has since seen him release over 60 records and appear on over 20 compilations, meanwhile co-founding the powerhouse imprint Cadenza. Earlier this month, Quenum added to his esteemed discography with a glistening, emotive four-track EP (Another Day) for Serialism Records and has plans to drop a collaborative single with fellow Swiss producer Dachshund via Rebellion on June 25th. Suffice it to say, Quenum definitely knows what he’s doing, and when he’s willing to share such useful bits of knowledge, as he does in this edition of Weekend Weapons, we advise you take notes.

Track Of The Day: Jon Convex - Lied To Be Loved feat. dBridge

Call me an idiot (go on, you’re allowed), but it wasn’t until hearing this track that I finally realized that dBridge, producer of pillowy downtempo drum & bass like ”Love Hotel,” and heartbreaking weepies like ”Seems Like,” is actually a gifted vocalist as well. Even after nonstop rinsing of ”So Lonely”—one of my favorite tunes of last year—it didn’t twig that the very familiar reedy voice from that and other tracks—like Martyn‘s ”These Words” and his own ”Inner Disbelief”—all stemmed from the same source. Thanks to dBridge’s Autonomic alum Jon Convex, this week I’ve not only learned something that I really ought to have realized some time ago, I’ve also gotten a new taste of the long-lost Autonomic balancing act of hard and soft.

Pick Of The Week: Amirali - In Time

On his debut LP for Crosstown Rebels, In Time, London-based Iranian architecture student Amirali manages to apply the principles of high design and classical piano training to his tunes. This suite of dancefloor movers and laid-back headphone groovers of the deep-house variety all help to define a sound that’s entirely Amirali’s own—remarkable considering the young artist only recently began releasing music.
