Borgore: Flex

Naughty, naughty Borgore is at it again. The video for his upcoming single “Flex” has surfaced, and news of the EP has provided us some details of its contents. “Flex” will see remixes from Coven, Figure, and Document One, while Borgore sweetens the package with a tune featuring the vocals of LA indie-pop singer Dev. The EP is due for a full release in March, but you can catch the exclusive on Beatport coming February 27. In the meantime, check below for a behind-the-scenes-look at the video shoot.

Beatport #1: Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl – In My Mind (Axwell Mix)

Congratulations to Axwell, whose remix of Ivan Gough and Feenixpawl’s “In My Mind” just hit the #1 position on the Beatport Top 100!

His dance-floor touch tips the track, originally produced by Australia’s Ivan Gough (of TV Rock) his countrymen Feenixpawl, over the edge. The single enlists the vocal talents of award-winning vocalist Georgi Kay, and it looks as if both factions have soon-to-be-released projects in store with her.

If you’re in New York, be sure to check out Axwell ‘s upcoming opening of the Cosmic Opera dance event. Also be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming releases from his label Axtone.

Get the track on Beatport here, or keep reading to listen to an audio sample.

Friction: Led Astray

You might know Friction as head of Shogun Audio or as the artist whose many tracks took the DnB scene by storm last year. Either way, brace yourself for 2012 because Friction looks to be continuing his upwards trajectory. Here’s the latest video released via Friction, for the new track “Led Astray.” The tune is a monster with “peak-time raver” written all over it. News from the camp pins the single to a February 27th release, but it also looks as if we can expect a full artist album from Friction some time this year.

Bassnectar Tour and Recap

The time has come! Festival season has begun, and artists in every genre are lining up dates in cities around the world. Our man Bassnectar is not immune to the lure of the open road. The festival veteran is scheduled for a massive, four-month block of dates, touching three continents during the first two months alone. The Vava Voom Tour with VibeSquaD kicks off in April after several dates for Bassnectar at places like Miami’s Ultra Music Festival and Brazil’s Lollapalooza. As a bonus to the tour news, Bassnectar’s camp has given us a video recap of last year’s festivities--consider it a teaser for what’s in store.

Introducing: Zeds Dead

Zeds Dead members Hooks and DC started their journey as the instrumental hip-hop crew Mass Productions. After one album under their former title, the two eventually morphed into one of Canada’s biggest electronic music exports. Tight production and a sense for formulas that work the crowd into frenzy have turned their name into one of the most buzzed-about names on the net. And offline, when Zeds Dead struck out on their 2010 Let There Be Bass tour, they pulled massive crowds of (Zeds) Deadheads, packing feverish fans at shows all over North America.

Celebrating their latest release on Inspected Records, the Adrenaline EP has been a successful highlight of what the group does best, reaching the number one album slot on Beatport after its debut over a week ago. We bring you a special look into the guys that make Zeds Dead such a success.

Founders: Nicole From Sub.Mission

We here over at Beatport are long overdue in extending honors to one of the most crucial figures in dance-music culture: the promoter—the person whose vision creates a local outlet for fans to come together to celebrate the music they love. The culture wouldn’t even exist without their support. Without the sounds and sights soaked up locally, today’s producers and DJs would be without one of the most crucial sources of inspiration.

In order to uncover the story behind producers’ passions, we’re reaching out.

The first stop in our journey lies in Beatport’s own backyard, in Denver, Colorado. Nicole Cacciavillano is head of Denver’s biggest and best-known dubstep entity, Sub.Mission. Her events attract hundreds of party-goers with popular acts like Flux Pavilion, Borgore, Excision, and Datsik, while also servicing the most rigid dubstep die-hards with sounds from Hatcha, Distance and Appleblim. As they come up on their their fifth anniversary, we caught up with Nicole to see what it is that lies behind Sub.Mission’s success.

Surge featuring Pyxis: Leech

Croydon producer Surge and Kaleidofly vocalist Pyxis offer this spooky, beautiful track, “Leech,” off of DJ N-Type’s Wheel & Deal Records. Huge bass, ethereal vocals and synthetic brass swells set the stage for this equally creepy video. The track has been gaining some steam through spins on Kiss FM, Rinse FM, and Get Darker. Surge’s dubstep debut is set for January 30th, with more following close behind.

Rusko teams up with Cypress Hill

Going from “Cockney Thug” to straight-up West Coast gangsta, Rusko has made some new friends since his move to Southern California. Taking the next step in diversifying dubstep’s format, he’s teamed up with the iconic rap crew Cypress Hill. The upcoming project promises a five-track EP due in April, but SPIN is giving away the group’s first single for free. (Their headline? “How I Could Just Skrill A Man.” Touché, SPIN!) “Roll It, Light It” is a smoker’s anthem bridging the gap between Rusko’s festival dubstep sounds and the tested Cypress Hill formula.

Tune in to Beatport Live with Joel Alter

Gothenburg, Sweden’s Joel Alter makes the trip to our Berlin offices this evening (Wednesday, January 25th) to tear it up live on the decks. Don’t miss the two hours of deepest house starting at 17:00 GMT (12 PM EST / 9 AM PST).

Alter recently teamed up with Eric D. Clark for the Rules Of Love EP on Bass Culture Records, featuring two velvety original cuts plus remixes from Franck Roger and DJ Qu; it’s Alter’s second appearance on the label, following his well received Silence Is Golden EP featuring the sleeper hit ”I Feel You.” The Swedish producer is also one half of the duo Jonsson/Alter; their late-2011 album Mod was widely acclaimed for its moody midnight hues and laid the groundwork for a phenomenal Move D remix. We can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for us tonight.

See Ustream.tv/beatport for more Beatport Live sessions, including sets from Tiefschwarz, Dirt Crew, Bloody Mary, and more—and don’t forget to tune in tomorrow (Thursday, January 26) to catch Steve Aoki playing live from our headquarters in Denver, beginning 2:00PM MST (4:00PM EST / 21:00 GMT).

Weekend Weapons: Interface

Bristol drum ‘n’ bass producer Interface has proven to be a man of many talents. He’s managed a catalog that provides as many floor-focused rippers like ”Desperate Measures” as deep and emotive material like ”Fallen Angels.” His exploits have landed him DJ slots at summer festival and appearances on BBC’s 1Xtra. Having the opportunity to peek inside his favorites playlist for our readers to pore over is something we couldn’t turn down. Check below for his unique list of picks.

Tune in to Beatport Live with Laru Loud

Tune in to Beatport Live today at 3pm MST (5pm EST / 22:00 GMT) as our very own Raul San Miguel unleashes his alter ego Laru Loud live on our Ustream channel. We asked what to expect and he told us “basslines hotter than lava, in a microwave, on the surface of the sun, inside a supernova.” We’re assuming that translates to house, deep house, tech house, UK bass and anything else that will fit.

See Ustream.tv/beatport for more Beatport Live sessions, including sets from Dirt Crew, Morgan Page, Figure, Drop The Lime, and more.

Track of the Day: The Bolivian Marching Affair – Are You Up For Getting Down?

At this point, Play Me Records has possibly become the best-known source for breaking unknown artists in the newest styles of dubstep. The Bolivian Marching Affair is their roster’s latest addition, and the Boston trio has found a comfortable position in dubstep’s crossover realm. The group’s energetic remixes touch on popular Billboard-charted titles and have earned them spins from high-profile performers like Skrillex and Nero

The title track of their Play Me debut smuggles dirty dubstep basslines inside a crisp pop format, with prog-inspired chords and a huge vocal hook. The rest of the EP pulls off a similar fusion, bringing together hip-hop swagger and trance stabs over some truly brain-melting bass riffs. TBMA’s super-charged sound vaults them into the lineup of rockers like Feed Me and Gemini—catchy enough for the airwaves, and devastating enough to bring stadiums to their knees.

Check below for sample of TBMA’s debut as well as a peek into the rest of the EP.
