#12 in this month's The 20“Basically it’s all about house. Whether you’re coming from a minimalist perspective, a techno perspective or a deep house perspective, the base to our sound is always house,” says Tiefschwarz’ Ali. The German brothers have put together a very special compilation (‘Strictly Tiefschwarz’) for Strictly Rhythm
that features nothing but old skool house tracks from the vaults of one of house music’s most important labels.
And the boys are keen to stress that although you may know them for their electro tech tracks that have become anthems - Unit 4 ‘Bodydub’ and Spektrum ‘Kinda New’ being some of their most popular – they have always been about the house music.
As Basti explains: “In the 90s you could have really called us big fans.
“We started going to the Miami Music Conference in ‘95 through to about 2000, and we were always at the front row of every Masters At Work gig, and we would follow them to New York.
“We were really passionate about them, and up until about that time I had every possible record of theirs in my collection.
“They even came to play in our little club back in Stuttgart, which was the biggest honour.”
For ‘Strictly Tiefschwarz’ the boys revisted some of Strictly Rhythm’s best output from the early 1990s.
It’s all classic house music and much of it is long forgotten.
Some of the album’s highlights include DJ Pierre’s acidic ‘Muzilk’, Chapter 1’s ‘Dirtabase’, and Hardrive’s anthem ‘Deep Inside’.
And although ‘Strictly Tiefschwarz’ is a triple disc compilation, DJs will be pleased to know that they can get their hands on all the best tracks individually from the album as digital downloads so you too can mix up your own classic house set.
