Vantage Isle Session

Deepchord [Echospace]

#02 in this month's The 20

Techno doesn’t get much deeper than Deepchord’s ‘Vantage Isle Session’, which remains firmly within the realms of sparse, uneventful techno.

There is much to be said, it seems, from not saying anything at all.

Like a thoughtless, meandering machine, ‘Vantage Isle Session’ begins and ends without any impact and without any highlight.

It is a mirror instead, neither complimentary nor disdainful, merely portraying whatever mood and image the listener conjures up inside their head.

The music is soothing and blissful at times, and at others, strangely intimidating—the white noise atmospherics, scatological arrangement and abstract noise of Deepchord’s music seems to unlock feelings and emotions that weren’t there before you plugged the headphones in.

As a result, only serious electronic music fans will appreciate the power of ‘Vantage Isle Session’ and outsiders will most likely view it as too barbaric in its sound distortion.

Ultimately though, meditation can have profound effect on an individual, especially when it is subversive.
