The Pace
7027 [7027 Layered Files]
#02 in this month's The 20Basic Channel eh? Where would we be without them?
The recent upsurge in the dub techno genre they single-handedly created during the 1990s has spread rapidly across Europe with myriad producers absorbing (unsuccessfully or otherwise) their tried and tested blueprint.
In a sub-genre that often suffers accusations of simple Basic Channel plagiarism, this shadowy Dutch white label from 7027 is among the most effective efforts in recent months.
‘The Pace’ is an exercise in deep, shimmering synthesis coupled with the reductionist percussion and deep bass on which the genre is based, while ‘Repaced’, as you might imagine, re-images the synths of the ‘original’ and assembles a differing percussive range.
If any of the impressive Modern Love output has resonated with you recently this release should sit comfortably in your collection.
