Tell Her

Scuba [Hotflush Recordings]

#04 in this month's The 20

Relative newcomer Scuba [a] (AKA Paul Rose) has managed to capture what artists who have been in it for years have been only hoping to accomplish.

In one fell swoop, ‘Tell Her’ is nearly epic is its soundtrack appeal, shooting straight up there with some of the most brilliant soundtrack composers and bearing appealing recent likeness to The Cinematic Orchestra’s version of ‘Man With A Movie Camera’.

Interestingly enough — yet also telling of the depth of sound — Scuba is most closely associated with dubstep, which becomes more apparent upon listening to the flipside of the release ‘Hard Boiled’.

This offshoot of drum & bass has classically been fueled by high drama.

But having run Hotflush Recordings [l] for some time, Rose is picking up on the crossover appeal of dubstep by stripping it down to its characteristics rather than its classification to live in a world that could easily have no name, but only feeling associated.

It’s in this regard that ‘Tell Her’ paves the way for anticipated new sounds down the pipe — a notion of which few artists have ever been at the forefront.
