In Carl Craig’s widening reach of the Planet E Communications record label, its latest release features Loco Dice collaborator and artist in his own right, Germany’s Martin Buttrich.
And on close listen, the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
Those classic Detroit pads come to life on ‘Cruise Control’, also featuring an uncanny resemblance to Carl Craig’s sometimes drawn-out space oddity theme.
Still, the track is grounded by a very modern sense of techno soul.
The single’s title cut, ‘Stoned Auto Pilot’, is an orchestral bit with a fair amount of funk embedded into its DNA, thus giving it playability within a wide range of DJ sets.
But it’s probably best heard in a small- to mid-sized room at that perfect time of night.
Any way you choose to use either of these two tracks, the message is the same: that the electronic music connection between Detroit and Germany established over a decade and a half ago will continue to be relevant for years to come.
