MyMy [Ostgut Ton]
#06 in this month's The 20MyMy’s understatedly harmonic music on ‘Southbound/Pink Flamingos’ sounds like it was recorded by an orchestra in a park during a particularly lazy Sunday afternoon.
The deep and warm sounds made by the trio of Lee Jones, Carsten Klemann and Nick Höppner has always been subtle but disquiet – an unnerving attention to the finer points gives their music a confusing shot between the dancefloor and home.
Here on ‘Southbound’ the trio embark on a dub tip that wraps enticing house basslines around exotic Caribbean rhythms and melodies.
The infectiousness of ‘Southbound’ stems from the warmth of MyMy’s sounds that loosen up the mind instantly - it’s unhurried, yet relaxing house music.
‘Pink Flamingos’ goes even further down the deep house route, by incorporating subtle pad waves that wash over you whilst distinctly animalistic noises, a touch of white noise and timpani drum rolls expand the track towards a nature-inclined landscape.
Such meticulous attention to detail needs recognition, and that’s why MyMy
‘Southbound/Pink Flamingos’ are in this month’s The 20.
