Smoke EP - Ryo Murakami

Featured Review #16

Smoke EP

Ryo Murakami [Kawaya Sounds]

#16 in this month's The 20

Newcomer Ryo Murakami is a fast rising star for Japan’s techno scene, having had a couple of releases on Steve Bug’s Dessous Recordings.

Steve Bug also included his track ‘Monument’ on his Fabric37 mix CD.

Now he drops his first EP ‘Smoke’ for KAWAYA Sounds, a fairly new label that has previously gained some underground kudos with a Doublehalfer & Lame EP release.

‘The Mind’ is a bubbly deep minimal track featuring some quality percussive sounds and a groovy bassline that’ll keep feet tapping.

There’s more uptempo bleepy tech house to be found on ‘Zoo’, which is quite wild and wobbly.

The great thing about Ryo Murakami is that he produces very minimal tracks, and the placement of his sounds and drum hits keeps you guessing on the forthcoming direction constantly.
