#03 in this month's The 20

Having built his arsenal for quite a few years, DJ Yellow [pictured] releases the ‘Sexy Boy EP’ digitally as a collaboration with Duotone.

His roots lie in Paris, where 15 years ago he formed the label Yellow Productions along with Bob Sinclar, but his pedigree and influence doesn’t stop there.

He’s been know as “The Hip Hop DJ” yet has also shown his admiration of artists such as Jeff Mills, Kenny Larkin, Blaze and Joe Claussell on his sleeve, both through his own production style and through Yellow Productions.

‘Sexy Boy EP’ mainly toes the line of techno but with a much more layered and light-hearted approach.

The title cut, building in nearly a verse-chorus-verse format not often seen in the genre, is a melodic work that could be used on any deep dancefloor.

The vibraphone-based b-side, ‘Déjà Vu’ feels intros like an angelic lead to what then becomes a powerful mid-tempo builder, and, in a way, steals a show of a different kind on this two-tracker.

Establishing themselves in an undeniable depth through these two powerful tracks, the team of Yellow and Duotone are a force to be reckoned with in the small and large scale.
