Sam Und Er / Womde!
Dario Zenker [Vakant]
#05 in this month's The 20- Section: Music Reviews Topics: The 20
Vakant has built a niche for itself out of African-inspired tribal drums, and the tribe it has amassed for its releases are all producers with a penchant for live-sounding drums – Mathias Kaden, Onur Ozer and 2000 and One all love the drums.
Here Munich’s Dario Zenker offers his own take on sexy, drum-led minimal with ‘Sam Und Er’, a tribally minimal number that sounds like it was recorded in the forest by a bunch of monkeys on acid.
The strange psychedelic breakdown and incessant synth pulse push the track towards dementia, before a rolling bassline stops the tune from falling over completely.
‘Sam Und Er’ is certainly aimed at the more druggy, wonky dancefloors that pay homage to DJs like Ricardo Villalobos and Raresh.
B side ‘Womde!’ is darker and more freaky, drifting into deep space soundscapes that echo and scream above a clunky drum beat.
