Party Lovers

Damian Schwartz [net28]

#08 in this month's The 20

As you may have gathered from our recent feature, Damian Schwartz [a] has released his new album through Net 28 - and it’s really rather good.

Drawing more heavily upon the influences of Chicago and Detroit than on previous works, ‘Party Lovers’ is a solid representation of a producer that along with Alex Under [a] and Tadeo [a], has been responsible for garnering the nascent Spanish techno scene some much needed exposure.

Schwartz resists the multi genre angle taken by many dance producers on a longplayer format and instead focuses his attention on the ‘floor, offering up 11 solid house and techno cuts that, without being earth shattering, do project a colourful palette of moods and themes.

Highlights include ‘Carolina’s Favourite’, a piano-flecked groover with a ‘Spells of Yoruba’ style vocal chant; ‘Continuamente’, which employs another cut-up sample over a turbulent bassline, and ‘Lo Que Sube, Baja’, an acidic little number that buzzes busily with the hum of frazzled synth lines and warm chords.
