Next of Kin, Mark II

#07 in this month's The 20- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: The 20
‘Next of Kin, Mark II’ by French producer Surkin is unashamedly funky house, and commercial too, but unlike the drivel that plagues Hed Kandi compilations, this is pure hedonistic fun.
‘Chrome Knight’, which features Chromeo, has achieved instant anthem status already. It’ll probably be one of the biggest house records of the winter, if Ministry Of Sound get their dirty mits on it.
Laidback Luke’s remix of ‘White Knight Two’ is typical big room house, with an old skool twist, whilst the Bobmo remix of ‘Kid Gloves’ takes the old skool house vibe and rapes it for all its worth.
Sample heavy with hip-hop influences and simple stabs, this will be huge in the more house-orientated clubs.
Ghetto house veteran DJ Blaqstarr rips up ‘White Knight Two’ into a typical vocal led loopy booty shaker.
The French are having fun with their music at the moment, it must be all that absinthe.
