#11 in this month's The 20

As one half of drum & bass duo Corrupt Souls, Washington DC-based producer Telemetrick garnered the attention of the mainstream with big releases on Moving Shadow and Circle.

When the duo broke up in 2005 some drum & bass heads expected Telemetrick to disappear - but ‘My Lightyear Album’ proves the American producer is here to stay (and drum & bass is all the better for it).

With its tightly constructed, technically impressive beats, ‘My Lightyear Album 002’ (the second album sampler) clatters along at a frenetic pace with Telemetrick’s synthesized melodies providing a framework heading towards sensory overload.

‘Exit Civilization’ is a melancholic soundscape of warped bass and pumped up breaks whilst ‘The Bone’ roars along with its evil bassline before breaking down into a dark landscape full of shadows and danger.

‘Evil Exists’ is, as one would expect, a twisted dark drum & bass roller.

But Telemetrick’s superb production flicks the track from one mood to another effortlessly, as the bass wobbles beneath a screaming pad.

Final track of the sampler ‘Space Coke’ suggest Telemetrick has a sense of humour, as alien sounds, space bleeps, Space Invader lead lines and techno hi hats push the track into a strange place – if you were to hear ‘Space Coke’ on a dancefloor it would be equal parts funny and scary.

We look forward to hearing ‘My Lightyear Album’ in its entirety.
