More Than Alot

Chase & Status [RAM Records ]

#14 in this month's The 20

Drum & bass has suffered a mass exodus of its most creative producers recently who have been attracted to the darker, more spatial landscape of dubstep.

Lack of innovation has further doused the flames of drum & bass’ once rampant fires, and 2008 will go down as one of the worst ever years for drum & bass LPs.

Through the genre’s ashes however, the new album from Chase & Status [a] ‘More Than Alot’ has emerged as a beacon of hope.

Offering much more than an LP of dancefloor rollerz, ‘More Than Alot’ is packed with differing musical flavours that represents the changing face of breaks-led electronic music and the widening tastes of today’s internet savvy consumers.

From the fashionable bass-heavy rhythms of dubstep, to gritty hip-hop and stunning liquid breaks, this is far from a closed book for drum & bass’ cannabis-entrenched hardcore.

Stand out tracks include ‘Can’t Get Enough’ which is poignant in its soulfulness, and the Kano-featured hip-hop hit ‘Against All Odds’.

‘Take Me Away’, ‘Smash TV’ and the wickedly infectious bass-heavy ‘Running’ further cements this LP as a fine release.

Drum & bass might be limping, but Chase & Status is keeping the beats moving in new directions.
