Matt Flores [Compost]

#11 in this month's The 20

After a career as a successful garage and drum & bass producer in the 1990s, Düsseldorf’s Matt Flores has now turned his hand to house and progressive.

This quality two-tracker from Flores combines raw tech house grooves with progressive sensibilities and ushers in a unique sound that is difficult to pin down.

The basslines do indeed sound a little jagged and rough to be progressive, but the complex chord structures and melodies show a deep understanding for the genre’s musical heritage.

‘Blackboard Universe’ bounces and jigs along, whilst ‘Solar Winds’ keeps its head down, maintaining a solid Detroit-inspired sound throughout. Top stuff.
