Myal EP

Mathias Kaden [Vakant]

#12 in this month's The 20

Minimal techno is getting sexier and less industrial thanks to producers like Mathias Kaden [a]. His new ‘Myal EP’ features all sorts of crazy bongo drums and African vocal samples that push his techno aesthetic back towards house.

Minimal in nature, but devoid of glitch or bleeps ‘Rhythma’ feels more like a hot tribal dance in Zimbabwe then a cold techno rave in Berlin.

Its exactly the kind of track that would destroy Circoloco at DC10 in Ibiza because it carries a distinctly global feeling, uniting the northern hemisphere’s electronics with the southern hemisphere’s ethnicity.

‘Myal’ too has one foot in the computer and one foot in the jungle – combining sexy South American drums with a rolling acidic bassline and sweeping FX.

Completing the nu tribal techno package is ‘Obeah’ a funk-filled bongo workout complimented by male chanting and a weird bass synth pattern.

The rhythms, samples and melodies on this EP represent a new dawn for minimal techno.

It’s warmer, brighter and happier. Unleash your inner gorilla.
