The one-man act that comes off as entire team by name has made a surprise leap out of the Montreal, Quebec scene.
And sometimes it does feel like there’s an entire team involved.
The flamboyant air of a cut like ‘Da Drum’ — with its acoustic percussive, voice and horn elements — bears the resemblance of a Latin dance party all by itself.
It’s here that the ultimately late-1990s French house flavor, also not opposed to such acoustics, enters into the resident of the French offshoot’s sound.
‘The French Dutchman’ and ‘God Damn the Whole Shebang’, both also incorporating vocals and percussive elements, have less of a team approach but either could work on a dancefloor incorporating a dose of soul into the equation.
Having known Montreal as a heavy producer of tech-based sounds, it’s this project by Guillaume and whoever isn’t on his team that’s a welcomed surprise.
But really, Guillaume could be from anywhere and sound just as good.
