Kamm / Plain - Marcel Dettmann / Pigon

#05 in this month's The 20

Originally a vinyl only series, the Beat Street label makes the shift over to the digital platform and releases what is probably its finest offering to date.

‘Kamm/Plain’ is the epitome of depth and spatial awareness from three of techno’s brightest stars.

Pigon’s (Efdemin [a] and Oliver Kargl) ‘Kamm’ is a dark mass of clangorous percussion and sharply spat synthesis that feels akin to falling down a deep techno mineshaft.

This sounds like little else out there and has prompted an outpouring of praise in the blogsphere.

On the flip, Marcel Dettmann [a] once again pins his inimitable style to the post on a track that consists of little more than some rudimentary drums and a creeping synth line.

But as is the case with the majority of his output, the few naked elements presented are so weighty and sharply focused that the track would be ruined by even a single additional element.
