Viktor Casanova EP
Italoboyz [Mothership]
#09 in this month's The 20The much-hyped ‘Viktor Cassanova’ track finally gets released after three months of Ricardo Villalobos
started dropping it in his sets – the Chilean DJ has been a great supporter of the Italoboyz
track since they gave it to him on promo CD sometime earlier in the year.
“Every time I play it I get the same reaction,” said Villalobos of the deep minimal track that features a stunning female opera vocal.
“It has been a while, since I’ve had a track that has caused that much attention on the dancefloor.”
Indeed the sexy female voice and the gorgeous guitar licks in the background provide some much needed soul to the genre.
This is one of the best records of the year for anyone who appreciates the funk, but no doubt there are a few minimal trainspotters out there who’ll complain that the vocal is too far recognizable for their ketamine-fueled brains.
They might however still go for man-of-the-moment Samim’s mix.
He sprinkles some of his magic tech house dust on the original, but this time, for once, it does nothing to improve the flavour.
Lee Curtiss’ mix too is bland in comparison to the heartrending delicate feeling of Italoboyz’ original.
