Infinity Is Now
Peverelist [Tectonic]
#03 in this month's The 20- Section: Music Recommendations Topics: The 20
Peverelist ‘Infinity Is Now’ is built around a complex arpegiated lead synth that flies graciously like a bird heading towards the sun.
The feeling that awaits it in the breakdown is warm, exotic and dramatic, yet monotonous.
Disjointed breakbeats and repetitive vocoded drum loops give the track an edgy dubstep feel, but without a heavy-hitting bassline it lingers as an electronic discourse between lumbering synths and the excited bird.
One wonders what the meaning is behind the title, but this time Peverlist speaks too quietly for us to hear.
Perhaps the most poignant aspect to ‘Infinity Is Now’ is the fact that Peverelist has managed to bridge the gap between dubstep and techno.
The basslines and dubby breakbeats are clear descendents of UK garage, but the hypnotic monotony of the loops is distinctly techno.
It’s an ambitious attempt at harmony and contrast.
