There’s nothing but pure joy to be found on Henrk Schwarz and Dixon’s deep house remix/edit of Ane Brun’s delicate ‘Headphone Silence’.

The lyrics of the Norwegian vocalist sound like a cross between Bjork and her fellow countrywoman Annie, and coupled with Schwarz’ fascinating mix of live instrumentation and understated techno beats, the track is sublime; possibly the best deep house track of 2008.

Moving through shades of melancholy, the track drifts into pad heaven before a breakdown welcomes Ane Brun’s utters of “I see a rainbow complete. Resting its feet on the hill and the ground…”

Poetic, yet masterful in its contrast.

Label boss Dennis Ferrer’s mix offers a more chunky, floor-filling groove as one would expect from the house master, yet despite its tenacious groove it is subtly emotional.

Dance music needs more tracks like this.
