#11 in this month's The 20

Beatportal’s favourite Cologne resident Gabriel Ananda dropped a devastating dancefloor bomb in May 2006 when his ‘Miracel Whop EP’ came out. For the EP, Ananda decided to include ‘Doppelwhipper’ an understated techno track that he had recorded live in his studio as a little extra.

The EP was never meant to be about ‘Doppelwhipper’, which was just a B side bonus to the tech house groover ‘Miracel Whop’. But fate had other plans for ‘Doppelwhipper’.

Due to the simple, yet aggressive nature of the track, ‘Doppelwhipper’ soon got picked up by the big techno DJs – Loco Dice, Hawtin and Sven Väth - who all started to use the track in their sets.

For them it was a simple dancefloor tool.

Soon it became the unofficial anthem at DC10 in Ibiza, and the rest as they say is history.

The ‘Doppelwhipper’ story however now enters a new chapter with some hot new remixes.

SuperMayer’s trancey techno version makes best use of the unmistakable bleep lead, which unfolds at a slower, more housier pace.

Cute keyboards that sound like they came out of a children’s toy cupboard reinvent the second lead brilliantly.

Jason Emsley’s version cuts up the bleeps and introduces a more electronic groove with some new FX.

The Rocco Branco & Tobias Becker remix cleverly copies the bleep lead’s pattern on the bass channel, creating a new, more bass heavy track, before giving way to a jacking heads down beat.

It’s time to put your hands together one more time for ‘Doppelwhipper’.
