#14 in this month's The 20

Consider ‘Family Tree’ as an audio guide to some of the more underground but accessible tracks available today, usually aimed at the dancefloor.

While many observers won’t be familiar with many of the artists by name, they may relate well to the notion of a well-produced cut, on which there are many found on ‘Family Tree’.

Then there are the more familiar and recently established names, where Quarion stands out with ‘Takin’ No Shorts’.

Known for his highly effective remix of ‘May I?’ by Australian Jamie Lloyd on Future Classic, Quarion is an easy eye (and ear) catcher.

And if this is the reason that many gravitate to ‘Family Tree’, then so be it, because buried within the grooves are some forward-thinking tracks by Minz (especially the Chaton Remix of ‘Chinese Drip’), Daria with ‘Alpaga’ and Laurine Frost with ‘Miranda’, to name a few, that you’ll be glad you were pointed towards.

Compilations often find it difficult to keep it together and come out on top without rehashing what’s already been done or has already been released.

In the case of ‘Family Tree’, it’s a discovery session what’s new, upcoming and soon-to-be more widely known.
