Manuel Tur [pictured] and DPlay continue their solid partnership on Drumpoet with some more late-night tech house funk with this two-tracker ‘Deviate’.
The Swiss label has over the last year released some quality percussive deep house and tech house and here on the lead track ‘Deviate’, Manuel Tur and DPlay combine soulful vocals with sexy downtempo house beats.
The female vocals sound like they were nicked from a Todd Edwards 4-to-the-floor garage track, which puts it at odds with deep house feeling of ‘Deviate’.
Manuel Tur and DPlay really understand the concept of letting sounds breathe in their music, particularly percussion, as the handclaps and drums on ‘Deviate’ stand out clearly amongst the muddy pads and organ chords.
B side ‘Mild Pitch’ is a bit more melodic due to a simple synth riff that repeats over and over, set against a backdrop of sparse deep house sounds.
Manuel Tur and DPlay did good last August on Drumpoet with their release ‘Rest Your Senses’, and ‘Deviate’ helps confirm their eagerness to succeed at mood-shifting deep house.
