Three Arches (Samim Remix)
David K [Tsuba]
#14 in this month's The 20Samim’s ‘Heater’ has divided the dance community with half proclaiming it as the greatest record of the year, whilst others have written it off as nothing more than an annoying gimmicky tune with an accordion.
But nitpicking aside, one thing is clear – Samim
is one helluva talented producer – and despite the commercial success of ‘Heater’ (it was No.1 on Beatport for a good few weeks on Get Physical, now soon to be all over the airwaves thanks to Ministry of Sound’s offshoot Data) he hasn’t sold out on us.
Imagine what a travesty it would have been if Samim had attempted to replicate the success of ‘Heater’ by following up with a similar-sounding track that had different notes and a slightly different folk instrument.
It’d probably have been another commercial hit, but the underground would hang him out to dry.
Ramble over. The point is, since ‘Heater’ he’s gone back to his underground tech house roots and here he produces a tight, heads down remix of David K ‘Three Arches’.
With dark drums that Steve Lawler would be proud of, it has an old skool piano synth that shimmers and breaks away to reveal a beautiful shining house moment.
Whether you love or hate ‘Heater’, it’s clear Samim is still in love with the underground.
