Move D [Running Back]

#13 in this month's The 20

Move D [a] aka David Moufang’s rise to prominence in 2008 has been remarkable considering he’s been releasing electronic music since 1992.

Whilst his output earlier this year began on his traditional ambient techno level, it wasn’t long before he began exploring deep house and that lightening speed evolution is further demonstrated on his new ‘Cube’ EP on Running Back [l].

Whilst lead track ‘Cube’ is more uptempo and loop based than his last few releases, it is ‘Heidelberg Gals’ that reveals Move D’s chameleon-like ability to change colours.

A funky disco bassline takes centre-stage on the track but it’s balanced out by dubby techno pads and snippets of deep house drums and vocals that makes the track hard to pigeonhole.

It’s neither nu disco or deep house. It’s a little bit techno but with a smidgen of ambient and that confusion is much to do with Move D’s long history of electronic music influences and his capacity to draw from all of them.
