Coco Feel And Love Shonk
Shonky [Contexterrior]
#02 in this month's The 20Shonky’s first release on Contexterrior
finds him in a seemingly more optimistic mood than his previous hypnotic tech house sojourns on France’s Freak ‘N’ Chic imprint.
In a nod to older days of house, tight kicks, hi hats and female vocals waft their way through the headphones and skip along at a buoyant pace full of energy and good humour.
Throw in some cowbell and timbales and the whole richly layered enchilada conspires to put a smile on the dourest of faces and a skip to one’s step.
Arpeggiated basslines and a punchy 4/4, along with a sexy vocal commanding to “work me, baby” will have the most tired of feet tapping or at least a head nodding blithely to this rolling groover.
To finish the trio, the title track starts off with a mysterious minor chord pad structure that quickly gives way to a kicking hi hat and haunting vocal that harks back to the days of classic deep house.
Shonky
is expanding his repertoire and moving into experimental territory with this one, and we predict it’s going to be big.
