The Shapeshifters [Defected]

#07 in this month's The 20

Back as if to prove just why they’re at the top of their game, The Shapeshifters have returned with yet another instant house classic.

The UK has long been fascinated with that good old-fashioned house sound, and The Shapeshifters duo of Simon Marlin and Max Reich bring it correct on the dancefloor.

‘Treadstone’ is an instant standout, and sounds like something you’d hear in a modern-day disco; perhaps it’s the sound of the electrified guitar that brings this notion fully home.

‘Chime’ is much more subtle in its infectiousness, initially starting out on the same wave as any good, slow building Orbital cut.

No doubt, it’s ‘Chime’ that’s used as a segue point between house and something closer to techno.

The Shapeshifters never really had anything to prove, but it’s still refreshing to know that they’ve retained the ability to deliver the goods.
