Showing off his ever-expanding palate, Matthew Dear utilizes his Audion alias for his latest fling with techno.
The three tracks on ‘Billy Says Go’ all seem to have a life all their own.
The title cut, ‘Billy Says Go’, finds itself best utilized in a large, cavernous room, with its lilting recorder-style high line atop steady techno beats.
‘Snap Into It’ also seems to find itself working well in a big room – or for a small-room DJ with a premium sound system – with its old school rave references amid a thoroughly modern soundscape.
Then there’s the driving force of ‘Against All Odds’, the engine of the ‘Billy Says Go’ train.
Dear’s Audion alias has typically been associated with all things harder techno (in comparison to his Matthew Dear namesake), but this time, he seems to have learned a thing or two in the production realm in general.
It’s the evolution of an artist, whose muse is not only the experiment but the fully formed end result.
