Bed EP (Dan Berkson Remix) - Alex Jones

Bed EP (Dan Berkson Remix)

Alex Jones [Hypercolour]

#20 in this month's The 20

The original mix of ‘Bed’ is an up-tempo though moody minimal affair, with an intermittent octave bass-line recalling classic Kraftwerk.

Echoey blips on the top, and a dark brooding background wash of reverb drenched toms and audio effects fill out the rest of the track.

Don Berkson’s mix has a lot to offer; it is a different take, with the emphasis more on the minor chord sounds and shuffling percussion that occasionally evokes Carl Craigs classic ‘ At Les’.

That puts it in very good company.

‘Humid’ and ‘Easy Spiderman’ all make use of the dark reverb and noise washes, the latter is more funky and less sinister - though still atmospheric.

Minimal, but deep.
