For a label that’s often known for its brash sense of humor that’s not disguised in the least by its very name, their latest move of releasing a very touching Apparat throws off all bets.
Apparat is the more sensitive human response to Shitkatapult label co-founder T.Raumschmiere’s antics — and the balance comes off as nothing short of stunning.
Consider ‘Arcadia’, an edited version here of the cut originally from last year’s ‘Walls’, as something of a Radiohead b-side.
Famous Apparat falsetto vocals join forces with darkly-themed pop electronics on this unabashedly melancholy-tinged title cut.
Boys Noize work to dancify the track, at once stripping it down to bare elements – including guitar – and please the techno crowd at the same time with a pounding bassline.
It’s when Telefon Tel Aviv pop in that what’s already begun as a textured romp becomes even more lush and full yet still fitting in a well curated DJ set, backed by a more forceful Remix Edit of their version.
To get a hold of the original track split into parts must have been some kind of dream for the remixers, in fact, as they had much to work with in Apparat’s well constructed original.
From his IDM beginnings to honing his craft into pop elements with his solo works and collaborations (including with Ellen Allien), Apparat has emerged as a songwriter in the midst of an ocean of tracks.
