R U OK Remixes
Ambivalent [Minus]
#03 in this month's The 20The Ambivalent
techno anthem that unfolded into the all too familiar story of a night out of overindulgence was one of the biggest minimal hits of the year. Hawtin and his Minus gang managed to create a major buzz by playing it in their sets months before they finally released in April.
Now comes the remixes and they’ve enlisted the services of some of techno’s biggest producers to give the track a once over.
Top of the pack is Paco Osuna’s WMC Remix, a groovy tech house plumper that makes wicked use of computer game noises and snare builds, before dropping down into a simple boom tick arrangement with the scary vocal over the top.
Beatportal expects this Barcelona-based DJ and producer to go far in the next 12 months.
Marco Corola also offers two excellent choices, the 4 Beats Remix is a plump techno jiggler, whilst his alternative 2 Beats Remix is a slower, more stripped-back bleeper.
Troy Pierce’s Like It Or Not remix dissolves into an acid blender and the Kasper Is Ok remix throbs with synth bass, sometimes out of time and gargantuan in nature.
Only the JPLS 12mg remix and the Tim & Camea remix let the side down, both of them are far too minimal.
