#13 in this month's The 20Agnes
LP ‘Dumbles Debuts’ was awarded Beatportal’s album of the week back in April, and now comes a second lot of remixes courtesy of some of the minimal scene’s best producers. Beatportal is excited.
Man-of-the-moment Ripperton somehow manages to sound both blissful and downright filthy at the same time with his quality dub house version of ‘Controversial Advantages’.
From beautiful melodic pads to groovy bass-led house, his remix is one of the best things we’ve heard in ages, and much better than the original (sorry Agnes).
Agnes’ beatless instrumental ‘Wildlife Institute’ has been turned into a slow-burning dub-house number thanks to Barem, whilst Novox’ electro-tinged techno remake of ‘Drowning’ is full of spaced-out atmospheric noises and re-edited samples.
Session Victim’s remix of ‘Hi Murda’ is a no nonsense minimal house beat, and Roy Harten’s flip floppy version of ‘Personal Dub’ features a whopping bass drum that hits you in the stomach like a Mike Tyson haymaker.
Top marks all round.
