Playful yet serious is the place where this latest release by Germany’s Jens Zimmermann lives.

It’s especially on ‘Wonderpets’ that this fact becomes apparent.

Bouncy, staccato chords ride atop a somewhat quirky bassline, opening up the possibility of being heard as the soundtrack to a child’s favorite playground.

In contrast, ’31-07-24’ seems much more serious – but along the lines of serious fun.

It’s the marching beats that herald in a much more light-hearted late-night party effect that subtly incorporates house into what might otherwise be considered straight techno.

No matter which cut emits from the speakers, the message is clear: You’d best join the party, because what you’re hearing is some serious stuff.
