Global Gathering ‘unaffected’ by storm weather
23 July, 2007 | 5.27AMThe organisers of Britain’s Global Gathering festival, which takes place this coming weekend near Stratford upon Avon, are reassuring punters that the site of the two-day dance bash has been unaffected by the recent storm weather.
Severe flood warnings are in place for many parts of Britain today after heavy rain over the weekend caused serious disruption, but Global Gathering‘s organisers insisted Long Marston Airfield is flood-free.
“We are once again expecting over 50,000 people to have the weekend of their lives,” said Global Gathering organiser James Algate.
“We also wish to reassure ticket holders that after being on site for the past week, the airfield and traffic routes are totally unaffected by the recent floods.
“Despite bad weather our customers have already been calling into the office saying that they are determined to enjoy the weekend and that really shows the affection the ticket holders have for the biggest dance event in the world.”
The organisers also revealed that the airfield is the perfect location for the festival in a press statement: ‘The disused airfield is built with quality drainage systems which make it an ideal place to host the sixteen arena’s that make up the world’s most popular dance and live music weekender.
‘Long Marston Airfield is on flat ground and not to susceptible to flooding.
‘The campsite also has good drainage and is equipped with hot showers and full amenities such as provision shops and bars.’
Over the weekend, some parts of Britain received 120mm of rain in just one hour.
This morning 48,000 homes woke up without electricity after a flooded power station was switched off, while another 500,000 are also at risk of losing their power.
The Environment Agency has issued nine severe flood warnings and says the situation is “critical”.
