Artist of the Week: Samim

Swiss producer Samim is currently one of the hottest names in electronic music following the release of his crazy accordian-sampling track ‘Heater’, which if anything, has made techno heads smile again. Samim is Beatportal’s Artist of the Week.

‘Heater’ is blowing up big style - did you ever imagine it would get this much attention?

“With ‘Heater’ I was hoping to get some people smiling. That it would get this much attention and polarise opinions so strongly was unforeseeable.

“I personally think it’s time to embrace the fact that the world’s cultures are coming together.

“Cultural globalisation is speeding up which I believe is great news for creative expression

“It’s always my intention to have fun and with ‘Heater’ everybody can join in.”

Now that ‘Heater’ is snowballing, how do you plan to capitalise on its success?

“‘Heater’ is the first single of my new album ‘Flow’ which will be out in September on Get Phyiscal Music.

“Check it out and let me know what you all think on my blog www.robidog.com.

Where did you get the accordian sample – we heard it came from a Columbian folk record.

“The accordion line is from a classic motive in Columbian ‘cumbia’ music.

“What’s interesting is that so many different interpretations have arisen [following the release of ‘Heater’].

“I’ve encountered reactions on ‘Heater’ ranging from “Bavarian folk dance music” and “polka house” to “chanson techno”.

“It all depends on the listeners background.”
